Anna Alanko, 29, Pattern Designer & Illustrator (Helsinki FI)
I’m Anna Alanko, a Helsinki-based illustrator and pattern designer. I got my MA in Fashion and Clothing Design with a minor in Textile Design in 2013. Currently, I divide my time between freelance illustration work, designing commercial pattern collections for Scandinavian and Japanese Interior and Fashion companies and artistic projects involving textile and print.
My work is dreamy, playful, colourful and fresh. I sketch using various mediums from paint to fine art printing, in search of new textures, accidental shapes and off beat rhythms for my work. In my illustrations I mix contrasting elements of my pattern work together with traditional collage techniques and digital manipulation to depict dreamy landscapes, surreal sceneries and patterned realities.
